Bad memory controller?

As the subject says I think I have a bad memory controller in my I7 920.
System Specs
I7 920
EVGA X58 SLI (758)
6GB 1600mhz corsair dominator cas8 memory
HIS 5870
Corsair HX1000 psu
Situation, when my system is oc'd to 3.6 the memory is running at 1442MHz (180x20) and all seems to be stable. If I drop my system to default clocks 133x20 it is stable with a memory speed of 1066. If I change to 1333MHz by raising the memory divider, set the voltage to 1.65v I can boot into windows but it will freeze the system. At first it was stable through everything I did. It started hanging in hyper pi 32m runs but would run everything else fine, now not so much at 1333 it will lock or reboot the system when browsing the web or gaming. If I try running at 1600MHz with 8,8,8,24 timings I can't load windows. I have run memtest on all the sticks individually and as a kit and passed a minimum of 2 runs, gonna run it overnight tonight but I suspect the mem kit isn't the issue. I have tried raising the qpi voltage and had no effect. Only time it seems to have an issue is when I raise the mem divider. I tried the chip and memory in another board and I got the same results. Am I missing something or is there something else I should try before replacing the cpu? ](*,)

I'm not sure to be honest. I just run my rig at 3.6 ghz with the XMP and it gives me 1603 on the ram.(200x18) I don't touch the memory unless it need to set it around 1600(when switching between stock speed/OC). Never had an issue unless I went too high on the cpu clock. I remember when I first got my rig, it was fussy about setting the memory without the XMP profile. might have been just me though

I have heard the xmp is funky at times so I set it manually, to no avail. Has the same problems when I set it via xmp though.

Well, ran memtest overnight and successfully passed 8 tests. Anyone have any suggestions that I can try? I hate to start replacing parts without being 100% positive.

i would manually enter all memory settings in the bios.

You cant depend on them being automatically set properly.

Already did that

Update:
Took out 1 stick of the dominator memory set it to 1600 and i blew up again.
put 4 gigs of Patriot Sector 5 in set to 1600MHz and it blew up as well. Looks like my chip is failing ](*,)
Am I wrong?

I'd say if finances permit, grab another cpu and try. I mean, you've already tried another motherboard right? I don't know what else could be doing that

I think that is the plan for tomorrow assuming I finish what I need to today. Wasn't really planning on dropping 200 bucks on a new chip this week but it will be what it will be

Sweet! I convinced Intel to RMA the chip! Now its off to microcenter to p/u one to use in the mean time. Anyone want to buy the replacement 8)

Niice...I'd love to grab a new cpu with a new stepping so I could hit 4ghz stable..but I just went apesh*t on 2 Fermi's (hard as hell to find right now) and $500 on a Vaporizer(no comment)..But that's frickin cool Intel hooked you up

Nice, a pair of fermi's make sure to post some benches on them and let us know how much the temps in your office go up

Well the new chip is rockin the Dominator at 1600MHz right now it has made it further in the tests than the 920 did :supz:
