				it looks like only Google.com is functioning, no services, and the firefox google quicksearch is broke as well

				i found out that all the google search results were being forwarded through a random domain, only on my machine, so i figure its a virus of some sort, installed AVG suite trial

				There is a malware that redirects google search links to other than where they are supposed to go. Say you googled PetsMart, the link result says pets mart but when clicked would send to some unrelated link for male enhancement.

that sounds similar but not exactly, i'll take a screen later when i go back on that installation(its a two day old copy of XP PRO, i installed xp because TF2 was incredibly laggy for no reason(evidently some random setting in win7) but in XP it runs awesome, malware or no)

Checked there's nothing untoward in your hosts file or DNS server settings?

superantispyware: wouldnt let me download from cnet
hijackthis!: long list of google hosts and other misc. taskbar apps, checked everything rebooted and google is back to normal =)
