monitor question

hey guys! my brother wants to buy a 1080p lcd monitor for his pc (1920x1080) and we are wondering if an HDMI cable is required to connect it to the laptop. Or can it be done with a regular dvi? His laptop doesnt have an HDMI port.

As long as they both have DVI he should be fine.

There are cables that have DVI on one end and HDMI on the other!
I use one on one of my setups(DVI to HDMI)
