I can't get my desktop icons backdrop's clear, something happened to it and it the way I usually would do it doesn't work anymore. You know going to system properties. Is there another way to make them that way?

What he means is, he has Drop Shadows on, but it has no effect. I couldn't figure it out.

right click on the "My Copmuter" Icon -> properties -> Advanced tab
performance options
in the new window there is a list, towards the bottom there is an option "use drop shadows for icons" check this, then apply, the boxes around the text will go away.
- edit -
to speed stuff up on my crappy work machine I have every thing in this list off but this option... nice to how much it speeds things up.

Yeah, I'm not sure what your problem is. My icons didn't have the drop shadow thing when I installed Windows XP. I know it's not the answer you were looking for, but you could always try a reformat/reinstall

have you tried to force the default desktop theme? doing this may force the effect to come back.

right click on your desktop (like your going to change your backdrop) go to the themes tab, then choose a theme.

EDIT: fixed it, I had something under web, in the advanced settings tab, where you change the desktop checked, causing it not to work.
***Edit lets keep it to a reasonable number of smilies please***
