Hi everyone, i have just realised that i have had this rig in my sig for 19months and have only ever had heat issues that aren't really a problem when i found out what the worry temps would be and yet i can still run most of the latest games out on high to max!

I think a lot of users get a complex with there current rigs and find a need to upgrade or build new systems. I know I find myself doing it when i really have no complaints with my current rig. Thats good tho you have gone that long on the same system. My girlfriend wanted an new computer 3 years ago. I told her for what she uses it for (web/email) she is just fine. Its now 5 years old an all I have done for it so far is just increased the RAM to 2GB.

				Grats on lasting 19months.
I have myself on a 2 year upgrade routine. Do I really need to upgrade every 2 years? No, but I enjoy it and my old computer never goes to waste as I can always find a family member or friend in need of an upgrade.
That being said, after some recent dentist bills, I am really thinking of skipping this year and upgrading next year instead. Right now id go from a Phenom quad core to a i7 quad core, or a Phenom 2 hexacore; and 4gb to 4gb/6gb of ram, which really does not seem like a big upgrade. Especially since the Core i7 is pretty much the same as the core i7 that came out 6 months after I bought this computer; and the 2 extra cores in a P2 wont see that much use from me outside of some rendering. So maybe I wait a year and get a mainstream Intel Hexacore, or AMD Fusion.
Especially since it seems like the games are not pushing the hardware as much. Crysis is how old now and I have not bought a game that stresses the system more then it does.
Maybe Rage and other new iD games or Valve with a new Source Engine, will push the graphical edge, and the hardware requirements up.

well i think that i could maybe get 2.5 - 3 years tops out of this rig before really needing to upgrade

but then upgrading will be a whole new pc

Metro 2033, AvP, Shattered Horizon, GTAIV, Mirror's edge, assassin's creed 2. all demand one heck of a system to run at relatively high settings (metro i hate playing with anything less than a GTX260 or 5770)
im trying to push my mom to a 3.1GHz+ Core2 system from a 3GHz pentium4 dell from '03(the weakest running system in the house, behind an athlon xp <2GHz system)
