On 7/3/2010 I walk into the local Comp USA Store in West Palm Beach FL located at Palm Beach3942 Northlake Blvd. to buy a Nvidia 3D Vision Kit that very morning before driving out checking thier website the price was marked at 174.99 on both Comp USA and TigerDirect. So I am like cool I do not have to order from newegg and can get it today. I look around the computer section could not find it, so I ask one of the floor sale guys and hes like yeah not sure if we have any left but they are behind the high dollar value counter, I nod and follow him. He pulls it down and says right here I am like cool how much he scans it and the price tag is 199.99, So I am thinking no way I just checked this morning and you guys had it listed at 174.99 on both Tiger Direct and on Comp USA's website, he says well if that is the case let us check and if its that price its the price you get it at, low and behold on both websites its marked at 199.99.... I was thinking am I going crazy!?!?!? He is well if our competitors have it at 174.99 we will match that price, I was like yeah newegg has had the price cut going for awhile and it was of course when he brought it up 174.99, he is like yeah we will match that price but I have to check with my manager, he comes back and is like sorry manager wont drop the price, your better off buying it from, I cut him off yeah I will just get it from newegg.
Well once I walk outside I bring up both Tigerdirect.com and Compusa.com on my phone, low and behold 30 seconds of walking out of there the price is at 174.99. I then am like well I will go home and check it out. I go inside of the store one more time to check the 199.99 as I jump on one of thier computers low and behold 199.99 and I am like this is rigged... I go home and check again same thing 174.99....... what poor quality service and intentionally rigging thier own websites in house at store locations to keep consumers from getting the deals/prices they promise/advertise.
Once Again my money has gone to newegg and personally I want the entire pc community to know about this.
On the Dell Alienware forums I posted this and got a reply.... so yeah its real and going on... Dell removed my post as well as someone who ran into the same problem here in florida

I actually had the same dilemma at my TigerDirect/CompUSA here in Clearwater, FL. I went to buy a couple hard drives about 5 months ago, so I can have some extra data storage room in my other PC. They had these 1TB seagate drives marked at $69.99 on the website, both on TigerDirect and CompUSA, so I figured I would buy them from the store instead of the risk of damage in transit from Newegg. So I went in to buy 2 of them, and when I went over to look at the price, it said $89.99. I went and asked one of the associates and told him that I just saw it on their website for $69.99, so just like you, I tried pulling it up in their store PC and it says $89.99.
So just to be sure, I pulled out my phone and looked it up from my phone with the associate right next to me, and on my phone it says $69.99. I had asked him why it is showing up as different prices, and of course, they didnt have an answer. And even then, they would not honor the price. The manager said he was not going to go by the price on my phone.
I just decided to walk out and take my business to Newegg. I am not going to sit there and argue over $20, when I can buy from Newegg without the hassle. I dont shop at CompUSA/TigerDirect anymore. I dont care if I have to wait a couple extra days to get my products, I would rather avoid business with them. The point was not the price, its the principle.

Re: Tigerdirect/CompUSA using shady business practices in stores
At least they are trying to act like they honor their website price in store.
I bought a monitor a few weeks back. I saw it at Frys.com, for $335.00, and New Egg was like $345, + $17 on shipping. So I decided to go pick it up in store as I drive past like 3 of em on my way home. Then I find it in the store and it has a $399 price tag on it!
I was talking to the service rep guy in that section, and pulled up on that monitor (it was hooked up to a Desktop) the website, showing the $335. But they would not sell it to me at that price in store. The clerk sympathized and thought it was silly too. That I could buy it online from them for $64 less then buying it in store from them.
Oh here is a thought, does FL have electronic waste recycling taxes? See I went home to buy the monitor off New Egg, just to say **** Frys; but then at check out the price was jacked up another $19 for a CA E Waste Tax; which with reg tax and shipping put the cost at $405. I actually ended up getting it off Amazon, for $380, exactly the listed price, with free shipping and Amazon somehow being tax exempt in CA.
So maybe, at the store it factors in location and adds in a E waste Tax, or some other local fee, that you may not see online till checkout.

Re: Tigerdirect/CompUSA using shady business practices in stores
This is just bad business practice. I'm not referring to the price switching tactic either. If I ran a business I wouldn't tell someone to buy it from a competitor. They are better off selling at a reduced price and keeping the customer happy and in their store. Considering they mark most things up anywhere from 10% up to 1000% they aren't going to be losing money.
