RAMs and those tall heatsinks

I like my RAM without those huge fins because I like to use large air coolers. In my eyes, there doesn't seem to be that much of a difference between modules that have a simple heatspreader and those with the full package.

Completely agreed - I don't even notice a difference between RAM with simple heat spreaders and bare RAM, for the most part.

they work well for people under water or better (even the H50) as the CPU hs/f is not an issue at all i prefer whatever cooling i can get, thought it is slightly an issue on my G31 system (rocketfish cooler+ original XMS2, the ram is up against the fan)
but ram is one of those things i underclock if possible (given a CPU OC, just lower the timings) because they are not cheap to replace

I like the ram that has heat spreaders that are about the same size of the module itself (pretty much all the OCZ heat spreaders).
Though I've opened up my case after long gaming sessions (3+ hours) and my RAM was never really that hot. or warm, for that matter.
