USB Power

Hi guys, my PC still gives power to the USB ports after the PC has shut down. When I last installed XP, I made sure that no device gets power after the PC has shut down and I did this though the BIOS. I was just wondering if it is worth checking the BIOS again to make sure it has kept these settings and if so what else could be causing the devices to still have power??

I'd say sure, check the BIOS. Why is this an issue with you though? Nothing else you can always flip the switch on the back of the power supply to kill any electricity coming into the computer.

Well I have checked the power options in the BIOS and can't seem to find anything that is what I'm looking for and the main problem is that m y mouse has a few blue LEDs that come on in the night and won't flicking the power at the back drain the battery.

Isnt that a feature on some of the new Mobos. So you could power up a Iphone or whatever while its off, and quickly too.

Make sure you have the latest chipset (AKA USB) drivers installed. I don't know why or how this could affect it but it's worth a try. And like Sttm stated it could just be a "feature" instead of a PITA. Try swapping the mouse to a USB port near where the old PS/2 connections were.

The mouse is plugged into the USB below the PS/2. I have also found an option in control panel to stop the device from pulling the machine out of stand by but that did nothing.

Are you sure the PC is actually shutting down and not going into standby?

Yes that I am certain of. Only other thing I tell it to do is hibernate.

What is the brand of mouse? I have a Razer and they constantly update drivers and firmware for the mouse. Maybe this is as simple as a driver/firmware update?

If its a wireless mouse (assuming it is you referenced the battery draining) the blinking lights could be the mouse looking for the USB receiver.
If that is the case, shut the mouse off when you power the system down. This stops the mouse looking, and stops the blinking and power draw. Had an old Logitech that I had to do this with.

Tis a wired mouse cause I also had a wireless one that kept doing that. And it was a present so I'm not sure on the make and such as there is nothing underneath that tells me.

There isn't a sticker/label on the bottom of the mouse?

Nope. There is some stuff about FCC laws and such and "avon" but nothing else. So I would guess that it was from avon and due to the fact that it is a mouse I don't think that I have the box still.
