Hi, so I'm relatively new to building systems (this will be my first build to be exact). Although I have upgraded my current computer before I am wanting to build a 'beast' so to speak. I was hoping I could get some insight or advice on the parts I have chosen thus far and maybe a little guidance. Thank you!

Possible Build #1-
processor: amd 1090T Thuben (Black edition)
Vid card: Radeon 5870 1gb Vapor-X version. [Maybe a 6970?]
mobo: Crosshair IV
SSD: ocz vertex 2, 120gb
HD: 1TB Western digital
Ram: 8gb corsair dominator GT (4x2gb)
Power Supply: Antec 1000W continuous
Fans: Corsair Cafa70 120mm
DVD Burner: Asus 24x (or Liteon 24x)
Case: Antec 1200

OR

Possible Build #2-
processor: i7 950
Vid card: Radeon 5870 (1gb Vapor-X version. [Maybe a 6970?]
mobo: Gigabyte LGA1366 OR ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366
SSD: ocz vertex 2, 120gb
HD: 1TB Western digital
Ram: 8gb corsair dominator GT (4x2gb)
Power Supply: Antec 1000W continuous
Fans: Corsair Cafa70 120mm
DVD Burner: Asus 24x (or Liteon 24x)
Case: Antec 1200

I think they both look to be very good. perhaps adding a blu-ray drive.

Out of the two builds the 1366 Intel build is beefier. With that said you will need to change your RAM kit. It needs to be a triple channel kit, not dual channel. It would also be in your best interest to buy a current generation video card (i.e. GTX 580 or HD 6XX0).

My personal opinion.

Thank you for these pointers! Major_A, that is a very good point... I was seeing that amd just came out with the 1100t also but gee I think I want to take advantage of tripple channel ram.

+ 1 for the blueray drive :supz: but -10000000000000000000 for lightscribe :vom: it's the most useless invention ever

and a +1 for the first system but only cos i'm a AMD fanboy =P~

should have mentioned the triple channel ha figured the 8GB kit was by choice
you're looking at 6GB (3x2GB) or 12GB (3x4GB) or (6x2GB), 6GB kit is plenty for most tasks aside from heavy Photoshop/premiere use

have you used lightscribe?

Seth89, Welcome to Legit Reviews! I told you at work that this is the place to go for good advice on building a new rig. As I said at work, the intel build will cost more but it wil be faster. I know thats what you want. :) Now order the parts and let's build it. EDit: I have a Corsair HX1000 power supply I can sell you at half price. I would go with the Asus motherboard. I also have a CPU cooler that came with the 980X that is much beefier than the stock cooler the 950 comes with that I will give you.

I use it for OS disks and other big ISO's like the way it looks, though contrast is a bit light

So with this 980x cooler would I still even need the cooler I had listed: 'Corsair Cafa70 120mm'?

I'd skip the aftermarket cooler. The stock 980X is a tower cooler design, so you might as well keep your money (or buy him a beer or two).
