I plan to buy a gtx 470 within the next month but seeing as i have an e8500 overclocked to 3.6ghz with 8gb of memory would my system bottleneck the card?

Are you buying that video card for the monitor in your signature? If you are the 470 would be an overkill for that resolution.

yes thats all i have the money for at the mo and why would it be an overkill!

I think he is saying at that resolution 1280x1024 - a lower priced card would perform the same. Like a 5770 would be fine for that monitor. maybe even a 5750.

unless he plans to, ya know... Buy a new monitor at some point. In which case a 470 is a great choice because I can see it easily powering any new games for a few years on 1920x1080

I would upgrade the monitor first. Your SLI setup should be enough to power a 1920x1080 resolution on most games.

I agree with the new monitor. your going to get more enjoyment with a new monitor.. plus you can use that for years to come. I'd go for at least a 22".

22's aren't real though, they are still 21.5", its basically just 21.5 or 23, 24, 25 all of which are ordinarily 1920x1080. I'm getting a 23" wednesday, hopefully it doesnt arrive before I get a board lol

I'd take a look at a TV personally.

I know you can't shop the egg, just giving an example.

If you do go the TV route don't get a resolution under 1080P (1920x1080). If you buy a TV with a 1366x768 resolution you are actually losing monitor real estate to your current 1280x1024. The TV won't have as good of a picture, contrast ratios/brightness/pixel pitch/etc..., but you will be hard pressed to find a 3D (120Hz) computer monitor for fairly cheap either.

1366x768= 1,049,088 or 1 mega pixel
1280x1024= 1,310,720 or 1.3 mega pixel
1920x1080= 2,073,600 or 2.1 mega pixel

If you are persistent about getting a video card then I'd look at the GTX 460. It's cheaper, runs cooler and overclocks nice. Newegg has a MSI Cyclone version of the GTX 460 for $140. If you went that way then you could use your extra money to upgrade your power supply to a good brand. I know you've had what seemed like power issues in the past.

Well maybe a new monitor before a new card is best but i was going to get a new PSU first the corsair hx850 with that it will do for future upgrades

Well i do now have a problem of which i got a new case and put my current system in and it now won't post and the monitor says no input but monitor works fine as does gpu and hdd and cd/dvd drive so what could it be?

Sounds like...
A) A grounding issue.
B) Loose power connection.
C) Power switch hooked up incorrect.
D) A RAM stick got knocked loose, reseat all your RAM.

Try B, C and D first. That doesn't work pull the guts out and try booting the computer on a non-conductive surface (i.e. motherboard box). If it works then your problem is A. Check for an errand motherboard standoff or burrs that might be making contact with your motherboard.

This happens all the time with a tower I'm always tinkering with and its always the 8 pin CPU connector. I don't know why but I always forget it on that particular machine.

i have done all the above major a and yet still no luck and have no idea what to do now think i might just scrap it, i give up with this piece of crap!

I would go to the NVIDIA Driver Downloads page and get your latest drivers. Edit: Sometimes the little nubs on your Graphic Card become loose and you need to tighten them by hand before you put on you plug.

Can you test your power supply? Seems like either the power supply or motherboard decided to take a dive.

i can't test the motherboard or psu at the mo but will do soon and let you know the outcome. there is a video that i am uploading to youtube soon about my pc and what is happening to it so you guys can have a look
