adding new video card. Whats compatible?

Post by DeusEx »

My brother has a pc at work. The only thing i know about is that it has the asustek 2a73h motherboard. I looked online for a good half hour and cannot find the specifications for this product (pc is prolly old since its in an office).

He wants to run multiple monitors and therefore needs a to buy a video card. We are trying to determine if one of the new 5xxx radeons would work (lowend). Any ideas?

Is this in a Compaq/HP dx2400? When I searched for the board # I come up with that model. You might search for the computer model # instead of the board in this instance.

I found a data sheet for a this computer. http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/pscmisc/ ... _sheet.pdf
I would never die for my beliefs because I might be wrong.

Yes, it has a PCIe 16x slot, according to the PDF. I hope he's looking at the lower end of the HD 5xxx spectrum. Given that it's an OEM PC with a crappy OEM power supply I doubt it has a 6/8 pin GPU power connection.

Thanks Major A. We are looking as lowend as it gets for the 5xxx radeons. Plug and play, no power connectors will be required.

Newegg's 3rd Shell Shocker item of the day is a HD 4650 for $20 after a $10 MIR. I think it runs from 3PM to midnight if your brother is interested.
