Affordable indoor security camera?

Post by dicecca112 »

Anyone have any recommendations? I'd prefer wireless and the ability to write to other media volumes not just a pc.

Do you need the DVR or are you going to have it record to a tower/laptop? How far is the camera going to be from the laptop/tower? Reason I ask is you can pick up pretty cheap USB extension cables on Monoprice. Then you could mount a hi res webcam to record.

most likely going to be a nas if possible, but it would be close enough to put on top of a bookshelf without the cable getting in the way

Unless you have a dedicated setup for the recording I'd go with a wired connection. You are getting a security camera for a reason and wireless isn't always the most dependable connection. On top of that most wireless cameras operate at 2.4GHz. The same frequency as older LAN phones, your microwave, wireless G NICs, some TVs, etc...
