strange readings

Post by Merlin »

I installed CPU ID in my friends computer to see if the memory was registering as dual channel and I noticed that the Multi on the CPU was changing as I watched. Its a Compaq Presario desktop. Is this normal? Also the Ram will not run in dual channel.. I checked the slots and the I have two 1 gig sticks in slots #1 and #2 then I have two 512 meg sticks in slots #3 and #4. I tried taking out the sticks in 3 and 4 but no change. I have updated the chipset drivers and all the ram shows up fine in BIOS and CPUID.

It's either AMD's Cool n Quiet or Intel's Speedstep. They both adjust the multiplier and voltage so the CPU consumes less power and puts out less heat.

What other hardware is installed in the machine? The motherboard might not support dual channel mode. For more system info download HWiNFO32.

*EDIT*
Edited to make sense and fix HWiNFO32 link.

The MB is an ECS MCP61PM-HM rev. 1.0a the CPU is an AMD Athelon 3800+ socket AM2+. It has a Nvidia 7800GT vid card. The two 512meg sticks are both Hynix, one of the 1 gigers is Hynix the other is another brand. All four sticks are the same speed.

Here is a BIOS update for that board, don't know if it will help, definitely won't hurt.

Does this look like the board?

I only see 2 RAM DIMMs.

What does HWiNFO32 say about the Memory?

It says it supports Dual Channel, don't know why it wouldn't be working.

And you have the latest chipset drivers off of nVidia's site, correct? Sorry had to post a picture since I can't link to the file since I don't know what OS you're running.
