Upgraded my work laptop today
Upgraded my work laptop today
My work laptop got upgraded today from an old IBM ThinkPad (1.8GHz Pentium) to a new HP EliteBook. To my surprise, it has an Intel X25-M SSD in it. Too bad we are using XP still (WTF?) so no TRIM. It's SOOOO much faster though with the i5 M 540 2.53GHz processor.

nice little upgrade there... The laptop that I've used the past 14 months had a Intel X25-M SSD in it and the same Core i5 540M mobile processor. Beast, but my battery is dead after just a year.

Isn't that the case with most laptops? Then they want $100 to replace the battery... It's almost as bad as buying a new inkjet printer instead of buying new ink cartridges.Apoptosis wrote:but my battery is dead after just a year.

It's been my experience with every laptop I've ever used. My Eee PC doesn't hold a charge like it used to and I only use it 3 or 4 times a year. To get roughly the same life out of the battery I have to turn the monitor brightness all the way down, kill my WiFi card, disable all apps running in the background and tell the CPU to run at it's lowest speed.

Your dang laptop is faster than my main rig.
Any idea how much that puppy ran? Or does your company do like my old one and lease every computer and server in the building?
