using a HTPC for server?

I am going to be setting up FTP server very soon hopefully. I currently have an old server that I was going to use. I recently powered it up and have been letting it run for a few days- what i noticed is that it is LOAD and I am guessing not very power efficient. I have noticed that some of these small HTPC that are out now running the dual core ATOM processors are using 40watts or less power.
Do you guys thing that a PC like that doing nothing more than hosting a FTP site- and working as basically a media server for my home network would be able to work ok. I will either be using server 2003 or 2008 as I already have the OS. My initial guess is that it will work fine, but wanted to get some other opinions. Oh yeah I’ll probably hook my magic jack(IP phone) up to it also since it will be the only PC running 24/7
