Qwest Fiber Optic?

Hey guys.

I was recently told that Qwest now is offering Fiber Optic to the home. I spoke to someone on the phone and they said that the standard rate is 5 dollars cheaper than my Premier Cox service. I think my Cox speed is 20 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up. I was told that the Qwest Fiber Optic is actually to the home and is 40 down and 5 up. The person said it is constant and not a burst speed.

Does anyone have any experience or know where I can check the validity of these claims. I know that years ago a friend went with Qwest DSL and even those they were 100 feet from the box (which was in the next door yard), their speed was half of my Cox and they were paying the same price for it.

The thing is that, 5 Mbps up is very tempting for Torrent uploads.

Any experience or comments I'd like to know if it's time to switch.

Qwest (Centurylink) fiber is basically the same as Verizon fiber. I.E. the same tech that verizon has for use in areas that verizon has no major network. I'm not sure if Centurylink had their own thing though. It's a dedicated connection so no bandwidth fluctuation as with cable. IF it is available to you (you usually have to live in a metro area) it might not be a bad deal.

Yes, DSL blows. They claim dedicated connection and a constant bandwidth but that is under ideal circumstances. It's all about your phone lines and only about half of the lines I've seen work as they claim.

IMO Cable and fiber aren't all that far apart (in the US) yet. Someday when the US capitalist system milks every last cent that they can out of the cheapest network available, fiber will reign supreme.
