PCI E 16X SLI question

So most SLI boards have PCI E running at 8x and 8x? I know that makes a bottleneck, but how much of a bottle neck. If the GPUs are only using 5x and won't use 8x for a generation or so, it wouldn't really matter, but if they are presently using 9x, obviously it would.

I was looking at the Infinity and Asus boards, and I was told that they all are 2-8x PCI-E slots for SLI, except the 230 dollar Asus board, which I don't have that kind of money for.

Any suggestions or answers?

These are the two boards I am looking at:

I really like the Asus HeatPipe, but scared of the PCI-E 16x issue.

If you are even considering $150-160 you need to just get the DFI LANPart NF4 SLI board. For a guy who will end up doing some tinkering and tweaking it is the best board you can get.
