Need speaker recommendations.

Post by Skippman »

Well, I blew my Creative Labs 5300 speakers. Only the center channel is working correctly. I've tried a second set of speakers and they work just fine. Even my iPhone running through the speakers is garbled.

So it's time for a new set of speakers. I'm open to recommendations on speakers less than $200 and 5.1

Ideas?

Under 200.00 for 5.1 is hard to find. I went to newegg and found this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6836121044 have no clue how good they are.

I actually have a set of those in my car right now to try out but I wasn't super impressed in the store. I was thinking of getting a used set of X-540 Logitechs. If I'm spending over $200 I'll just buy a home theater in a box.

I wish I could afford a 5.1 setup of Audio Engines.

Is it the speakers themselves or the amplifier/sub box? I had a creative thx set where the center channel died, but the speakers themselves were fine it was only the amp/sub that was broken. The speakers I have used the standard speaker hook up. So I went out and got a Yamaha 7.1 receiver for about $200 and just hooked up the speakers to it using some cheap speaker cable. Its actually worked out nicely as I now route all my audio to the receiver through optical connections and then out to speakers or my headphones, and the audio quality of the receiver seems better then that of the amp/sub.
