Most of it I already suspected, But some ????

The top 10 semiconductor firms worldwide

1: Intel --> we all knew -> but twice the market share of Samsung!
2: Samsung -> Sure, all the RAM etc.
3: Texas Instruments
4: Toshiba
5: STMicrolectronics
6: Renesas Technology
7: Infineon Technologies
8: NEC Electronics
9: Hynix Semiconductor
10: AMD (incl. Spansion) --> Seems AMD's joint venture with Spansion is paying off!!!

Intel made 35,136M in revenue in '05 with %15 of market
AMD made 5,687M in revenue in '05 with %2.4 of market

well AMD is number 1 in all of our hearts!

Yeah, Intel can bite my shiny metal ass, rofl.....It really doesn't matter who's the biggest company to me at least if their product is crap or, at best, sub-par. AMD all the way!!!

No surprise seeing Intel at the top considering how fast they can stamp out those chips, I'm sure Dell's got no complaints.

lol, TI probably got on top of their game this time around because of the DLP chips that are used by a good many of TV manufacturers.

have you ever seen those little chips on PCB's (All kinds)....Well their made by TI etc. (TI make some of the very first CPU's)
Samsung make something like 80% of all memory, thats includes Flash ram etc.
Toshiba and NEC have both discovered a new process to make even smaller chips (kinda like Intel have) --> still not sure what they actually make

Renesas --> Quote from their site "#1 Supplier of Microelectronics worldwide For the Automotive, Mobile, Digital Consumer, Industrial and PC/AV markets, Renesas has an extensive line of MCU / MPU-based semiconductor solutions." -> never heard of them till now (mayby they changed their name?)

Infineon & Hynix make Memory IC's

STMicroelectronics --> they make just about all kinds of electronic chips

AMD are only listed because they part own Spansion, who are BIG in the Flash ram market (they have a new product called MirrorBit, allows the chip to run alot faster compaired to others)

No, literally.

Actually, this being a Northwood it doesn't put out that much heat, most of it's actually coming from my 2 WD hard drives.

I said it b4, and I'll say it again.....The Northwood was Intel best CPU......Can still hold it's own against LGA775....even beats Socket A (not AMD64)

Yeah, I love this little thing. I just wish I could use it to its full potential.

The proprietary motherboard in this crummy (although sytlish and portable) little SFF doesn't give me ANY OC'ing options.

I want to run my 2.4c at 3.6ghz damnit! lol

Gonna have to agree there.

Intel dictates the pricing and availability of their chips for Dell and whether or not they get the best batches. Dell's completely at Intel's mercy.

HD manufacturers are all at Dell's mercy though. Only the best batches with a good rate discount or no deal.

The lesser parts are then trickled down to us through retail.

oh yeah boy!!!!! maybe AMD can better help Dell in turn tell Intel where to shove it.....I would love to see a Dell with an AMD. You're talking about a chip with seemingly greater performance and a cheaper price than Intel on some models, combine it with a decent OEM company like Dell, and you can probably see some great improvements in the way of increased volume and revenue. I know if I were buying an OEM (which I would never do now because of the knowledge I've gained over the past couple years concerning systems building) I would go with Dell if they had an AMD offering.

While chip makers AMD and Intel duke it out in the industry's latest antitrust battle, users are left with some questions. Whether achieved legally or illegally, has Intel's overwhelming domination of the chip market made PCs more or less expensive? And what effect, if any, will AMD's lawsuit have on what we pay for PCs in the future?

Industry players and experts disagree on the answers, but a surprising number think the overall effect of Intel's market dominance has been to lower costs, not raise them.

I'm not gonna type out the whole thing from my magazine, lol. You can probably find the article online, the title is "Does Intel's Dominance Hurt Consumers?"

So yeah, while performance is probably guaranteed (except in the kind of multitasking they show on the Home Shopping Network ), cheaper pricing might not be.

It's all about who can supply the chips on time!!!!

Intel can make deadlines, AMD can't.......

Disturbing, but on the X2 4800+ Dell beats NewEgg's price as of this post, Dell at $772.69 tops NewEgg pricing of $787.00!

Yeah I feel your pain, but you can't beat SFF systems...I'm thinking of getting 1 for a HTPC..I have the cpu, ram and gfx so why not put 'em to use!

Yeah I knew they were selling AMD chips, but I didn't know they were cheaper!
The fact they can sell for cheaper could mean they are a big customer of AMD's ;) --> Mayby Dell sold them as a test to see the reaction, B4 going with AMD for their PC's!
Yet I can''t see Dell going only AMD for a while....If at all, They may just offer either as an option...normally it's 1 or the other but they have some power over Intel because of AMD and the fact they can shift so many chips for them.
