I have a Mac/PC network at home running Bellsouth DSL. For safety sake I used the Airport basestation for Apple's compatibility. The uploads don't happen on my computer and DL is very slow...I cannot complete DSL Reports' speed test because the upload times out. Any ideas?

Apple Airport Basestation
Apple Airport Extreme
Standard Bellsouth Modem

Users:
Me (with LinkSys Wireless Ethernet Bridge)
Mini Mac (airport)
iMac (airport)
Dell Dimension Laptop (linksys wireless card)
iBook (airport)
Little Brother's custom comp (PCI wireless card)

I dunno if it is a hardware malfunction, someone is tapping it, or what...I'm stumped.

Are the up/down times slow on both the LAN and WLAN?

If its only the WLAN check the wireless coverage, the signal may be weak where your PC is (If it is, move it closer to the basestation!).

There is a program somewhere where you can change the MTU packet size for your broadband, this can help the speed of your connection. Failing to find that you could change it manually on your modem/router. Ideally it should be set at 1492.

I can only elsewise suggest the standard stuff you probably already have done:

1. Check for spyware/adware (on your windows PC(s) you can use spybot and adaware, free and very good!)

2. Check for viruses! If you dont have a checker, another good free thing is AVG.

3. Check the physical connection speed of your modem through its software, if it isnt connecting at full speed you might want to check microfilters etc, or call your DSL supplier.

4. Use encryption and password protection on your WLAN, WEP or WPA, its not going to stop the most dedicated haxors, but will stop oppertunist 'passers by' from using your connection for free.

I tried your suggestions and things may have sped up a little. The trick, however, seems that the Airport just needed a firmware update...sorta odd that it would stop working when the new firmware was released. Perhaps SP2 is at it again. Thanks again.

not to mention how porous SP2 makes the OS to hacker attacks and viruses....need a damn PIX firewall just to keep out the common script kiddy (sarcasm, love it, lol.....or is it? ).....gotta love OS quirks huh?
