I was sitting here a couple of days ago and thinking about computer hardware in general. And then something just popped up in my head, I miss having the color green on my computer components PCB. I know completely strange and random thought. What color would you peeps like to see make a come back or even see new?

I miss the brown Asus motherboards.
Now they all look like they are made for COD Modern Warfare type gamers.
Who really needs LEDS on their board to show how many power phases are in use?
In the old days we just plugged in our components, swung by the BIOS then spent the next 3-4 days looking at a blue memtest screen.
That's another thing, BIOS's were for men back then.
You had the options you needed, no more no less and you had two main layouts; Award and Pheonix BIOS, blue backround or grey.
Now you've this so called better UEFI BIOS. The only advantage is the ability to cope with GPT partition layouts and larger disk sizes, both of which the traditional BIOS could have been extended to support.
All it does is make things more complicated, it still relies and uses BIOS code to run POST and low level device setup.
All it's there for is booting the OS & any other utilities like memtest etc.

for BIOS' I have seen them mature from when we had to use jumpers on the K6/Pentium (CMOS) that shared the same socket. to the newer UEFI bios' that are in use today. I personally like the UEFI over the traditional BIOS' screens as it is a little easier to read, I will have to say I feel the navigating is a bit more smoother and less cumbersome (this my own personal opinion) and we can take screen shots of the UEFI directly from the UEFI interface.

And when it came to video cards, Nvidia had the Green (hence the green team) and ATI used red (hence the red team) nowadays it is all black, or black, with more black, with a bit a blue in for good measure for PCB colors. Just black is getting so freaking boring.

I would like to see other colours than just the blue or black. In fact what i would really like is all of the colours used for the various components and some white L.E.D's so you can see it (if of course you have the right case).

I also agree that the BIOS has too much crap and not what you need. If this UEFI BIOS is that good why do I not have a choice to whether my USB ports get power when the machine is turned off.

Something like the old ATI xpress 200 chip set.

Ken,

I still have a white ATI board and keep it out in the open on a shelf for a conversation piece. I wish they would bring the white PCB back and maybe mix with with black.

Here is a picture I just snapped:

I do like the white board there. It does look very nice.
