I just finished watching tonight's 60 Minutes segment featuring Fatal1ty. I must say that I expected it to be a completely self-promoting segment... And while there was some of that, Jonathan actually did quite well when given the question "So you are the world's best gamer?"... his answer was "If you say so".
After watching the segment in its entirety, I was instead left with the impression that the purpose of the segment was to promote gaming (cyber-athletics) as a sport. While the promotion of professional gaming will directly seal Jonathan's financial future with this career, it also has a bigger purpose. By Jonathan and Mark Walden doing most of the leg-work to set computer gaming up as a professional sport, (Mark's marketing and Jonathan's continuous winning performance), they are setting the stage for thousands of gamers around the world to capitalize and reap the benefits of their success. Mark referred to Jonathan as the Babe Ruth of the professional gaming industry, and I think that pretty much sums up the role that Jonathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel will have in this industry.
