hey everyone,

i took LR's recommendation and got the external seagate hard drive to back things up. Im running windows 8. Either way, the software wont do a thing, just sits and says that its "pending"... Looked on seagates forums, seems other windows 8 users are having trouble too.

That sucks. Keep checking for an update for their software/firmware. I'm sure that it will be coming sooner rather than later. For the time being you can manually backup your files.

So you are trying to backup a Windows 7 system and it won't work? Or do you have Windows 8 and trying to do a first time backup?

What USB port are you using? Are you using a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port? If you are using a USB 3.0 port, which controller is it plugged in?

How many user accounts are on your PC? Are you logged on as admin?

i cant answer those questions at the moment because i am using linux (for now or long term i dont know yet)....

i think that part of the problem may have been that the windos 8 install was really shoddy... its because i upgraded win 7 to win 8. My win 8 cd is on the way so i hope that once reinstalled from that it should be ok. Thanks for the help so far, hopefully this will get resolved.

Btw how are you doing Apop? Its good to see LR still putting out good artices and informative news.

I'm gonna go with Majar_A on this one.

Where windows 8 is new it might just be that seagate hasn't got the drivers released yet. But I don't think the "shoddy install" is any help.
