Old E8500 Upgrade?

So I have my old e8500 rig with 4gb 800mhz memory just laying around so I stuck my old gtx 570 in there and tested it on the likes of crysis 3, battlefield 4 and farcry 4. crysis 3 I got 30fps average on high and battlefield 4 I got the same but with farcry 4 I got 25fps on high. however even at max settings the frame rate remained the same due to my cpu bottlenecking them all. I now want to upgrade my cpu but keeping it as a 775 socket due to money issues. the best I can get in this mobo is the q6600 or q6700. would a q6600 be a worth it upgrade seeing as I can pick one up for £20?

Hum... You have a dual-core processor that came out Q1 2008, so it is 7 years old. It runs 3.16Ghz.

The Intel Q6600 came out in Q1 2007 and has more cores and overall cache, but is just 2.4GHz and runs 1066MHz on the Front Side Bus.

Not sure you'll see a huge gain on single or dual threaded games, but there might be some on those that support three or more threads. I'd overclock the heck out of the Q6600 though.

most of the games I play are quad core optimized. so was hoping I would get a decent enough fps gain. any chance that if I clocked the q6600 to 3.2ghz would I get a noticeable gain? my reason for upgrading this old dated rig is so I have something to fall back on if my current rig fails for some reason. also I can go to lan partys as my current rig is very heavy at 22KG vs this one at 12KG.
