OST File Not Fixed With Scanpst.exe Inbox Repair Tool

Post by GRDWats9 » Thu Oct 29, 2015 1:50 am

I am trying to recover an OST file that is about 4GB in size. When the scanpst.exe program is running, it makes it through 7 of the 8 steps and then throws the following error message:

An error has occurred which caused scan to be stopped. No changes have been made to the scanned file.

Is there anything I can do to recover this corrupted OST file?

backups. backups. backups.

Prior to Office 2007 Outlook would get a little pissy on any PST file over 2GB. Archive option helps things and make its happier. That makes 2 files, OUTLOOK.PST and ARCHIVE.PST

I have had luck in the past with copying the PST file to the desktop and running the recover tool on the copied file. If the drive is jacked (bad sector and what not) then you may be screwed.

If it's a .ost file, in lieu of .pst, isn't that just the local copy of the emails still stored on the Exchange server?

That was what I always thought so you can rebuild it just by deleting it as long as you have the emails still stored off site. Most people pull email to their computer and delete it from the server so the local copy is all they have. This is why I love gmail! ALWAYS keeps it. I have email from 11-4-2006 when I first made my gmail account 8)

I would say verify that the items listed here are not true

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829236

Otherwise I have not found any good solution other than just rebuild the ost file.
