Lan/router speed question

I was wondering if there are speed differences in lan cards compared to onboard lan on a a8n32 card. I was thinking of going wireless but I'm not sure if there is a speed or a quality difference. I have an old router also, it's a d link di-704. Is there a difference in routers now also? I'm not having any problems, but I'm waiting on a new computer to get here and didn't want to bottle neck anything with having the onboard lan or an old router. Let me know. Thanks alot!

What are you using the router for???

If it's just interweb access, then wifi is fast enough
If your using the router to share files between pc's then ethernet (wired) will be quicker......
That motherboard supports gigabit ethernet (1000mbit)
Both lan connections on that board support this speed.
I doubt the router does, it will run @ either 10 or 100mbit....but if the router is for internet access....then the speed of your DSL connection will determine the overall speed.

Hi, thanks for the response. I just wanted to follow up to get my head straight. The router is a 10/100 (I looked it up online) and I am only concerned about the internet and online games ( I don't share files between computers). My cable is supposed to be really fast lol, it is, but I'm wondering since I'm within a mile of a hub, could I get faster internet response by ungrading my router since the motherboard will support 1000 instead of 100. Thanks for any help. Also, if an up to date router would be good, do you have a req on what one to get. Thanks

I work for an ISP and deal with DSL ALL DAY btw....

Your internet connection is lower than 100mbit!!!!
What make is your current router?

You should be able to check what speed your internet connection is via the router's config page....

connecting to the router via gigabit is pointless.....infact the router will force your network card to run @ 100mbit....

Unless your going to get a bundle of leased lines(very very expensive), your current router is more than fast enough for your internet connection!

gigabit internet speeds is for isp's etc. (i'm on "only" a 2mbit line!)
