Well have New computer and new issues
So I got my new computer but it has a couple issues I need some help with.
Specs:
NZXT Lexa case
500 watt NZXT power supply
AMD Athlon 64x2 4400 Toledo
ASUS A8N32 SLI
2x Gigs Corsair DDR400 Value Ram
2x EVGA 7800GT 256MB
Creative Audigy SE
Sony DVD drive and Sony DVD-RW dual format
Creative P7800 Speakers 7.1
XP Home version
Round cables
Aquagate Mini liquid cpu cooler
Seagate 300GB SATA-2 16MB cache
DELL 2405FPW monitor
So that's the good, now the questions/concerns/problems.
1-There's no sound! I can't get sound thru the speakers. The speaker wire came with an interface wire that has 3 connectors on one end (pictures shows it as computer end) and 4 connectors on the speaker end. Hooked them all up, doubled checked everything, checked the system speaker config and everything looks ok, but now sound. I don't get sound thru headphones either. I ran the audigy troubleshooting wizard and says no problems but I don't get any sound thru even the set up tones. If I unconnect the power to the sub and reconnect it, it pops and if I turn up the speakers real loud, I do get a static type buzz, so I know they have power.
2- After it was running for a bit ( and I was trying to figure out the other computer not coming on =posted that problem under system software forum) and walked over to the new computer and started to move it over a bit on the desk and it shocked me. Not like a surge type shock, more like a static electric super shock but it zapped the system and it shut down. An error came up when I went to power it up again and it said "chassis fault shutdown" but after restarting again, it came back up. Now I'm kinda worried about that. Is there a connection with these 2 problems? Or something else going on?
3- On the right lower task bar, there are 2 computer symbols with x's on them. One says "wireless network connection is not connected", that's cause I don't have one. How do I get it off there? The other symbol says "Local area connection 2 is not connected", well I only have one router for my 4 computers, I don't need it I don't think, I can get on the net and everything, so how do I get that off?
So after getting these few problems figured out, is there anything I need to tweak to get the most out of the system? Anything anyone would suggest? I am only a beginner, so nothing too hard for me to figure out lol. Thanks for any suggestions and help!

1. Double check to make sure the "mute" is not checked under volume control...happened to me before.
2. dont know.
3. right click on the (i think it is called) the task bar. then click properties. then customize. there you can pick which icons to show all the time, sometimes, and never. here is a link wiht task bar tips.

check device manager and make sure there are no conflicts with the sound card
make sure optical out is not enabled
to remove the cable unplugged icons -> click them, it brings up the properties, @ the botton there is a check box.......show notification is taskbar when not connected......
the fact that static shutdown the system, means something is touching both the case and the mobo, pci card, gfx etc......check for any lost screws behind the botherboard, or anything which could cause a short

looked at all that
No conflicts with device driver. The digital output only is not checked (not sure if that is what Ken meant but couldn't find an optical entry anywhere).
I looked around in the case and don't see any wire touching. I tried to look at the mother board, it seems ok, I'm not savvy enough to take it out and check though. Took the back panel off, and looked down in there as well as I could, don't see anything behind the mb.
Looked at the disk drives. The only wires I see coming off of them is a ribbon cable and power cables. That goes for both drives. If that was the problem, couldn't I get the system to play say "the exclamation" sound thru windows? I can't. Windows sound themes make no sound.
As I thought about it, I decided to try my other speakers that I have on the new system to see what would happen. I got no sound either, but I did notice that there was electic type static coming thru the speaker inputs. I've never seen that before. So here is what I'm thinking, tell me if it could be it...the sound card is bad (shorted or whatnot) causing electic to feed into the case and wires plus no sound. Could a short there, cause a MB to shut down if I touched the case? It is for sure a short, cause if I touch the case, not move just take my hand away for a couple minutes, touch the case again, another shock, and it's strong enough, I can see it in the daytime.
Clicking on the task bar worked for perma-hide the icons.
Thanks

unplugg all your cards etc from the motherboard.......have a GOOD look for something which could be causing a short!!!
I still think something is behind the motherboard....!
If you touch the case and get static, then i must be a short somewhere........
I'm afraid you will need to take out the motherboard.....It's very easy, just a bunch of screws.....If your unsure.....see if you can get someone else to help you remove it....

Yea thats a ground short sounds like you will need to take the board out and find something thats out of place,or in the wrong place. I dont know who built this for you but I wouldnt let them touch anything again there done. It is posable something has fried and will have too be replaced. This is not normal. As far as what you can do to make it tweaked I would get rid of the value ram and put some good stuff in it and then you can tweak it. But first get rid of the short and get the sound going and a stable pc. Then tweak it. That a killer sys when you get it going. Shame you have to have this kind of problem with it. Good Luck!
builder
Ibuypower is the ones who built it. This is the fouth puter I bought from them, never had a problem before, but this one (the most expensive, figures) has problems.
The small radiator for the liquid cooling looks to be in the way big time of moving the mother board. I can't even see the sound card. I thin I'm going to find someone to do this for me, looks kinda difficult and I'm pretty unsure about the whole thing lol.
Thanks

found it?
Ok, well maybe I found the short, I'm not sure because I don't know where it came from, but I had everything opened up and was looking around in there. I basically jarred the computer (because of my angle on the desk) and an L-bracket fell down to the bottom. I don't see where it was supposed to go and I didn't loosen anything up myself. It was a metal bracket about an inch long or so, bout half an inch one way and half that the other. Looks like a screw threads into it, like it goes where a whole is, then you bolt something to it and the screw goes thru the hole into the bracket.
Anyways, it seems after this, the shocking power has pretty much went away. I will still get a small little (static type) shock if it sets for a while and I walk up and touch it, but nothing like the "eye of the storm" type shock I was getting before. Could that have been it? Ibuypower thought it was either a bad PS or a bad Case, so they are sending the PS to me, now I'm not sure whether to have them put it in or not lol. Course I feel kinda dumb to call them up and send it back unused also. They will be like "this guy is crazy", but if we think that it was the problem, then that's what I'll do. Just setting here, I reached over and no shock at all. What do you all think?
Thanks

one other thing
One other question I have. In back of the puter, behind the radiator (LOL, makes me laugh, esp since I'm somewhat of a car buff), there's a round knob. I assume that it controls the water cooler fan. My question is, how much should I have it turned to? I have it all the way right now and the temps on the case read 35 or 36 since I got it. Can/should I turn it down some? Also, I know Keri thought this case would be loud, and I did also with all the fans, but the only thing I hear is the water cooler fan. If I turn it down, it's like silence. I think I have to live with that, but just thought maybe if I turned it down some, it wouldn't be on all the time, so some quietness anyways.
Thanks again
