My first "real" OC...

When I've done processor OCing in the past, it's always been a test. However, now that I have 2GB RAM and have run into the NewCastle memory controller limitation, I have discovered that OCing is now quite within reach! In order to keep speeds @ stock, I set the following:
Proc Multiplier - 9x
HTT - 245MHz
HT Link - 4x
CAS - 3.0
TRAS - 8.0 (RAM was mistiming this, doesn't help that one pair's SPD is 2.5-3-3-8 and the other pair is 3-3-3-8, says so in CPU-Z)
vCore - 1.475 (was undervolting @ 1.450 before)
This put the proc at 2.2GHz and RAM at DDR400
Now for the excitement!
HTT - 253MHz
HT Link - 4x
CAS - 3.0
TRAS - 8.0
vCore - 1.5
Processor is now at 2.4GHz and RAM still at DDR400 (my RAM won't OC for ****)
Idle is 34C according to AsusProbe (no F@H just yet, sorry! Testing first...)
Running Doom3 Timedemo and AquaMark3, then I"ll post load temp.
Load temp doesn't really bother me, it's got an XP90 on it and within 30 seconds of running Doom3 three times it was back down to 35C.

That's a nice 400Mhz jump using air-cooling. :)

good job... what kind of memory do you have?

That's what I have with my setup.....!!!!!

Sovereign, Congrats!!! Welcome to the dark side of computing  :)

I'd say your temps will be fine, but you still need to test with prime95....
Who knows you might be able to go higher ;)

I think he's using 4x 512 sticks......

That's a 200MHz jump, BTW. Prime95 errs on the first test, but Doom3 runs for an hour with no issue. Yes, 4x512MB sticks @ DDR400. Now, my RAM doesn't OC for crap, so it's forced to stay at stock. The memcontroller does DDR333 @ 2T b/c of NewCastle memory controller limitations. Tricked it to running at the stock speed. They're both matched pairs of Mushkin Green Line (value). One pair has 2.5-3-3-8 on the sticker and the new pair is 3-3-3-8. However, the mobo times 2.5-3-3-7, had to force it to the looser timings to prevent issues with the looser timings

sounds like the memory is holding you back! That sucks! I'd say to trade it or pay a bit for some 1GB sticks (2 x 1GB), but with all AMD and Intel systems soon running DDR2 i'd just hold off if you plan on upgrading later this summer. Socket AM2 and Conroe both look mighty fine and I can't wait for the change... X2 and P4 is getting boring after looking at them every day for years.

Sovereign try using the stock multi to overclock, you might be able to run 2.4GHz with the lower memory speed.....this will still give better performance...

Also you sould test your cpu for stability with only 2 sticks or even 1 first.....

Can't, the memcontroller is stuck at DDR333 b/c of the limitation with 4xRAM and NewCastle cores
