REVIEW: <bleep>in' Tigerdirect.com

Post by HONkUS »

So last week I was looking for the AM2 Athlon X2 4000+ with the 2x1mb cache and I discovered that the only two sites that claimed to have it in stock were Tigerdirect.com and Monarchcomputers.com, ive heard horror stories about Monarch so I decided to go with Tigerdirect. So I order the proccessor which they say "usually ships in 1-2 business days" (should have paid attention to the "usually" part) and then immediatley it says the item is on backorder. I call them they say it will be in on the 15th I tell them if newegg gets it sooner im cancelling my order. So I wait. the 14th rolls around and I read an article on the net talking about AMD cutting back on production of their x2 chips for AM2 with 2x1mb caches due to fabrication problems. Worried, I immediatley go to Tigerdirect.com and check the status of my order. It said it was still on back order, not convinced I looked up the item on their item search and it turned up nothing, I go back to my order status page and click on the link to the item and I get a "this item is no longer being sold" message. Shocked and confused I call tigerdirect and im told by a grossly incompetent employee that they arent carrying the item anymore. I ask why wasnt I notified, they said and i quote "I dont know we should have emailed you" (they didnt) So I ask what they were going to do about it since I placed the order and had been waiting for the last 9 days. I figure surely they will want to make a sale. They could move me up to the 4200+ which is now in stock everywhere and still turn a profit and not lose a sale. No. I get, and again I quote "I dont know I guess you need to cancel your order" So of course I did. I go to newegg and for 10 dollars more im getting a 4200+ shipped next day.

Tigerdirect can <bleep> my <bleep>ing <bleep> those mother <bleep>ers! RAWR!

0 out of 5 stars

Anyone else have any horror stories or better yet is there anyone out there who has been satisfied with their service?

wow, that is really really bad service. you really should let them know.

I havent had any problems with tigerdirect. I havent bought anything from them but I directed a buddy to them because they had a cheaper price then newegg. He had no problems. Thats too bad. companies dont realize that customer service will bring customers back. If there is a company that i have had a problem with an order and them do what they can to help me out, they usually will be the first place i look later on and sometimes the only place.

I have a friend who absolutely swears by them, but he has no experience whatsoever in ordering stuff from online.

I myself prefer Newegg for most things, the IT guy at my job directed me there.

Wow! So far I've never ordered from Tiger Direct. I probably won't now. I mostly order from Newegg, ZZF and Chief Value. I was almost going to order a CPU/mobo combo from Monarch (with all the free goodies) but it was a lot cheaper to buy the part individually.

I never order from Tiger Direct due to the fact that their prices are so inflated comapred to everyone else.

I also do most of my business with ZZF and NewEgg. I love NewEgg! About a year ago I ordered a ton of computer parts from them again, OS and all. When I got my packages, there was a long one... Unsure what it was, I open it and low and behold, it's a freaking wireless keyboard and mouse. They somehow managed to send me a keyboard and mouse instead of the OS... I call them up wondering where my OS was and tell them that I got a logitech keyboard and mouse instead, they ask me for the model # and say, "Just keep the wireless keyboard and mouse and we'll mail out your operating system today!"

That's just awesome service right there! :)

Yes, I like how they do business. That's the way any respectable company should act. If they mess up, they should pay for it.

That's smart business for NewEgg. It would cost NewEgg more money to RMA shipping back to them, repackage (if needed), and restock. So you made out on their mistake.

I've been very pleased with NewEgg too. So far, I have not tried any other electronic on-line retailer other than NewEgg or Radio-Shack.

I've heard of many people having problems with Monarch. A few with Tiger-Direct, and wacky things from ZipZoomFly of missing parts in the box.

Within the last year or so, NewEgg has adjusted their return policy. Just keep up to date and be aware of your return rights. :?

In reality, you didn't do too bad with Tiger-Direct seeing that your credit-card wasn't charged and you could just cancel the order. :) With many of the on-line ordering places, going back to order the 4200+ yourself is the best bet vs. a person over the phone. Getting good quality help in retail is nearly zip-o these days for the wages those people make.

The last time i ordered from Tiger Direct was in 2000, i actualy had no problems but then my product arived, on time and worked. Its when something goes wrong that TD becoems a nightmare. That and they spend all this time and money advertiesing good prices and rebates (which you never get) only to charge 3 times what other companies do for shippign.

TD has a history of screwing people on MIRs. My only experience was a 5 dollar MIR that took 8 months to get.
