I am buying a new rig and considering what parts I should buy. I have a budget of around $800 CND. Prices for video cards at my local stores are inflated by up 50% and they have a poor selection of motherboards. I am thinking about buying from tigerdirect.ca since it is a Canadian store. I can't buy from newegg.com since I don't live in the USA. Any other suggestions for a Canadian online store?

I might purchase the following parts at my local store:
AMD 3800 Single Core CPU - 188 CND
Cooler Master Centurion Case - 120 CND
Corsair 1GB PC5400 DDR2 - 119 CND

I will use my current 7200 RPM IDE HD and probably get one of these two boards:

So in total $577 plus $50 for a CD-ROM drive plus, so it's gonna be $627 CND plus shipping and taxes. My budget is around $800 so I really don't want a more expensive card than $150.

Tigerdirect.ca has a poor selection. I am considering an XFX 7600GS with passive cooling or MSI 7600GS with active cooling:

Okay, so here is my questions:
1) Any better online Canadian stores? Is there anywhere I can get a Gainward card?
2) I am a bit concerned about the CPU as it has only 512kb L2 cache and is becoming outdated. Is the single core 3800 okay?
3) Any general advice on this build would be appreciated.

Yeah July 27th and August 7th are some upcoming important dates in the PC World.

What is happening on those dates?

I wonder how long it will take for stores to change their prices. I want a new computer this summer.

Try ncix.com for online ordering in Canada, it's the only store I use, they'll pricematch any lower prices usually.

Thanks, NCIX rocked! I live in Ontario and I got my processor and ram in 2 days. $20 shipping, UPS air. This is what I ended up getting for almost $900 CND shipping and taxes included. I will pick up a Sound Blaster later on and get new vid card when people are dumping DX9 cards for DX10.

That look like great system that is on a budget, and a lot upgrade for the future. You said that you be getting sound card later. I recommend getting the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS, it not $$$ as the X-Fi card but, it still kickass. Remember the Audigy2 ZS was the best soundcard.

yeah, i even use them for US orders. but newegg is the best

Oops, too late now I guess... but I was going to suggest taking a look at canadacomputers.com (located in ON and some of their stuff is cheap) and memoryexpress.com (located in AB and most of their stuff is cheap, plus if you live in AB you don't get PST ) I have searched all over the web and found that overall, tigerdirect.ca and ncix.ca tend to be a tad pricey, but their inventory is quite good. Maybe useful for future reference?

Anyhow, that's a really sweet budget system
