Regarding monitors: I'm unsure what to go for. Which is better, a 17" 1280 x 1024 LCD, or a 19" 1440 x 900 LCD. Both are around the same price, and both are DVI. All the other features are pretty similar too.
19" here
17" here
I know widescreen is good, but would you reccomend it over losing a few pixels from the 17" model. I plan to be coding software and playing games on it.
Any thoughts opinions are much aprichiated.

If you are a Gamer, then response time is one of your main factors when deciding on a monitor. The lower the "MS" (mili-second) number the better. The 17" LCD that you are looking at advertises a response time of 8ms, which is slowly becoming the standard for LCD's, but is excellent nonetheless. Secondly, I would be concerned with warranty and customer support. I recently had to contact Samsung regarding my monitor, although the problem that I was having was a result of my video card murdering my motherboard, Samsung nonetheless shipped me a replacement monitor with the return shipping pre-paid. You may want to consider those factors prior to making your purchase as it tends to make life easier knowing that you will have good support in the situation that you need it.

If you're going to be coding, you'll appreciate the extra real-estate of a widescreen monitor. Then again, First Person Shooters look pretty cool on a widescreen too... Just a thought.

yeah i would say widescreen, but i can see a benefit in widescreen till ya get into 20'' wide. However if the choice is between a 17'' and a 19'' go with the bigger one

19" FTW! As long as it has good response time, go big.

Like everyone has said about the response time, it is important. nothin higher than 8 if you are gonna do gaming.
I would do some checking on the company that makes the 19in. ive never heard of them (i havent heard of alot of companies). i would just do a little google search on them, see what people are saying.
