With Black Friday comming up i am hoping to get some great deals on upgrading my computer....pretty much everything. CPU,RAM,MOBO,VIDEO (and selling everything i have now)

Should i really wait for dx10 cards and quad core? Will quad core really benefit in gaming as well as dx10?

I guess it all comes down to....

Great Deals=take it while you can, it doesnt matter
Great Deals=Doesnt matter new technology will be better in long run etc??

DX10 is a long way out and is gonna eat up and produce a ton of watts. Not worth it there. Quad Core has a while and no games except for one are programed for it, and its not out yet. Unless your a ridiculous folding junky, get yourself an e6300/6400, a Asus P5B-E, some TeamGroup Xtreem DDR2 and oc the snot out of that puppy.

I disagree. I think your specs are good for another year of great gaming. You've got plenty of RAM for Vista, you have a PCI-e mobo id just get a 7900GS or two and save the rest of my money to build a killer rig next year. Then again I struggled with a s754 3200+ for two years so dont listen to me lol.

But come one guys who DOESNT want to run 4 instances of CS? (sarcasm)

If you decide to sell of your stuff, please let me know. If I can free up some cash I may be interested, especially in your processor.

Since I have quad-core I think it's safe to say it's not for gamers as most games can't take advantage of it. Those with multimedia studios in there home that do video editing and things along those lines with HD movies and audio will fall in love with Core 2 Quad processors. DX10 looks awesome and with cards less than a month away I believe they are worth waiting for. Honest advice... skip 65nm quad CPU's and jump on them when the 45nm CPU's roll out in mid 2007. For now grab a DX10 card and a fast/overclockable Core 2 Duo for your next gaming rig as you'll be playing games like Alan Wake with the graphics on high and loving life.

remember these game titles are coming up and are DX10...
Confirmed DX10 SM 4.0 Games

Crysis
Alan Wake
BioShock
Company of Heroes w/ Patch
Age of Conan
Halo 2 PC
UT2007 w/ Patch
Flight Simulator X
EVE Online w/ Patch
Hellgate: London

Right on - nailed it :) :drinkers: But this is only the "I don't want to piss my money away" option. There are others

I also have to agree with waiting until next summer when Intel releases their new processors to upgrade your rigs, that's what I'm waiting on.

Mine will last me until next year

P4 3.2GHz Dual Core 64-bit
2GB DDR2
ATI Radeon X850XT PE (Hopefully going to win the Vid Card by Folding).

Maybe we can color-code the names. Red for AMD fanboy and blue for Intel fanboy and Black for normal thinking folks :P JK
If it's AMD I say definately wait.

OK as the days get closer i have been doing a lot more shopping for my new build.

I know what board and ram i am going to get, but i am stuck on CPU and GPU. I am wanting to get the latest (maybe not so greatest)

Without knowing exact release dates of Nvidias new G80 and AMD's new Quad, Should i just get a cheaper AM2 so i wont be burning as much money later??

ARRRRGG this is tough when new stuff is comming out and you want to upgrade!!

I'd get a quadcore now, and a DX10 card(most likely G80 is only one available). With the 8800GTX producing numbers similar to my crossfire rig, and the cost of one G80 being about hte same as my crossfire card when i got it, you have alot of life left in such a config, as wel las having DX9-type applications fully covered. Of course, that power isn't really needed yet, but that's part of being "futureproof", at least a little bit, if you ask me. And sure, value of those parts will drop, and there will be bigger and better shortly after....but that's always the case.

i voted yes, but my opinion is a lil skewed, as im waiting for the second rev. of quads or 45nm (whatever is more powerful/cheaper) and i am gonna stick with my X850xt for another year maybe (i dont game.....really at all)
