can't get my system off the ground

I haven't built a system in a few years and not dealt with newer parts. This same problem happened with 2 different motherboards: Socket 478, they both say 533 FSB and DDR 266 is supported. CPU is a Celeron D 2.8GHZ (533), samsung ddr 266 (2x256) memory, generic ATX case w/ 400 W power supply. It powers on - CPU fan starts, but no video comes up, no beeps, no lights on the keyboard. The same thing happens with the memory pulled. THANKS!

Posiable that the memory itself is bad or it is the board.
Try the memory in another system that will accept it, and try some other memory in the board you are having issues with.
Some of the newer boards are really picky on what voltage memory they will accept.

2 different motherboards were tried with the same exact results. The first one was sold "as-is" and the second is supposedly brand new. I'm thinking memory now as well. First I bought some that was buffered ECC. I couldn't find anything that says that will not work, but that's what it's looking like. The second set of memory I bought did not specify, but I'm assuming non-buffered, non-ECC. I'll see what I can find out about voltage. It's odd though that 2 MB's and 2 different sets of memory are behaving the same.
