Graphic Card Weird problems

Post by arxfata1s »

hi. i have a 7900gs video card pulled from a dell system with a broken mobo. i've intalled the card in my system, but it seems that riva tuner can't see the graphic card info, nibitor can't see the bios and the card hangs out in benchmarks like 3dmark03, 3dmark 01, 3dmark05, providing interesting artifracts in Troll's Lair test for example. What should i do? please help...

Do you think that i should flash the vga bios with the original bios found on nvidia.com?
Any explanation about the wierd errors and artifracts?
I mean Aquamark3 is running fine, and other benchmarks don't...

How come that i can play all the games at excellent details whithout ny problems? I play Titan Quest, Company of Heroes... I run Aquamark3 and it's ok. When i run 3DMark01 it freezes at Point Sprites test. In 3DMark03 it's artifracting and then freezes in Troll's Lair test.

sounds to me like a dead card, when the mobo died it could have taken that with it.

Are you saying that you can run games on it fine? but you can't finish a bench? That is odd. however if you can't finish a bench its not always just the video card. It could be ram and a bunch of other things. Usually though if you can't finish a 3dmarkbench you can't game either though.

when you siad that you pull from a broken mobo does that mean the card is in the mobo when it got fried. If so, maybe some ram on the card got damaged but not all of them that's why you can use it for some task but not others.

I don't know how the mobo died. My friend said it stopped working when he was surfing the web. Is there some way to test the vram on the card? Do you think i should flash the bios on the card?
It's very interesting... I played Titan Quest, Company of Heroes, HOMM5, and other games for days and days whithout problems... and i cant benchmark my machine. Still Aquamark3 is working fine, i've got 83.500 score...

if you are brave enough and it is easy to reinstall, try removing the hs from the core, wiping the core clean of all the crappy gunk dell puts on it and putting some silver thermal grease on it. perhaps that will help dissipate the heat.

I believe the 7900GS need's like a 450W power supply.

What sort of power supply is in your system? Maybe the problem is power...

watts isn't the issue its the amount of AMPs on the 12V, if power is indeed the issue
