I think its because they are the most reliable still for keyboards and will always be. I also think they use even less of the cpus processing power than usb does. though both are minimal.

You cannot use USB keyboards with some MB BIOS. If you booting from a recovery disk etc, sometimes USB KB/Mouse won't work as well. I keep a PS/2 KB?mouse handy all the time.

Most motherboards will allow you to use a USB keyboard with no problem, you just have to enable USB emulation in the BIOS.

What MB is that, I also have never seen a MB without one.

I have a couple of Pentium 3 boxes here in my rack.

If I'm trying to load KNOPPIX, The USB Keyboard I have on it, I cant type in anything at the boot: option because the USB Ports arn't enabled anymore. Yet, I can get into the BIOS with them and everything else.

That's basically the way it acts when I go to run any Linux-Based system on these P3 machines. Cannot use anything USB-Related until the OS loads them.

Try booting using the cheatcode "knoppix26" this boots the newer 2.6 kernel which might have support for your usb controller.

Cant. That would require me to type it in at the boot: prompt. None of my USB works their, only after Knoppix boots up on its own can I use my USB. Not worried about it, they're old HP P3 Machines that rarely get used now days. I just noticed it last night when I was installing pfSense Firewall on one of them.

I use a PS/2 keyboard because it had the key layout I like. The one with the large "L-shaped" enter key. I've only seen one USB keyboard model with the large enter key.

A lot of motherboards still come with serial ports and parallel ports. I think much less people use that than PS/2.

Oops, stupid me, I looked to make sure, and turns out my motherboard does actually have a pair of PS/2 ports. Because I never used them, I must have assumed they were absent.
