C drive is running out of space

I have an old computer that is running out of space on the c drive. It is an old sony vaio.
The c drive has 920mb of free space and 14 gb used
D drive has 18.1 gb used and 41.1 gb free

There is also a secondary storage drive J: with 7.56gb free and 66.9 gb used.

C &D are the same physical drive that is partitioned. Is there a wat to re-allocate some of the 41.1 gd of free space to the C drive?

I have tried to delete the non-essential files and un-install the un-needed programs from the C drive but really have made no headway.

What is the best solution?

get a new hard drive LOL, sorry had to say it.

But there is a program that will allow you to adjust the partition sizes, its called Gparted live, they talk about it on Ep75 of DL.tv

Danno,

When I install software, if it allows me to select another location to install it, I usually go with any other drive but C:

Just over half the programs out there will allow this to be done. The programs that do not I just leave installed on C:

If you know of any big hitting programs that eat up disk space and could easily be reinstalled onto another drive without loosing your data to that program (like not loosing saved settings or saved phases of a game you're in), then by all means install that program elsewhere other than C:

Peace!

Stev

I tried partitioning the main HDD on one of my reformats and I ended up running out of room on C (where XP was installed) But, before I actually had to do something, I got a virus (thanks for downloading that great "free" program, Dad) and had to reformat again. I learned my lesson, but I wish I had known of that program back then...

Partition Magic also allows you to resize partitions without formatting, works like a charm for me but it's not free. Cute partition Manager i here does a good job and it is free. http://www.cutepm.com/

DL.tv is an online tech show that is hosted but Patric Norton and Robert Heron, they were on TechTV's The Screen Savers before G4 took over.

Move you profile to other drive
So in case you have to reinstall your OS, you just reformat your C drive

Thanks for the suggestion CNLinda, but with a thread that is over a year old I think they will have either solved this problem or bought a new drive.

As it's a massive thread revival I'm just going to lock it.
