Just reinstalled windows...

Post by The Black Pumpkin »

I hate this, but it's necessary when you switch motherboards.

Say hi to an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ and an MSI K8N Neo.

I got them from werewolfdaddy a while back and have just taken the plunge to switch over. :|

Now for reinstalling programs.
AMD Opteron 1224SE "Santa Ana" = DFI Lanparty UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G
Crucial Ballistix 4x1GB DDR2 800 = Corsair CMPSU-750TX
Sapphire 4870 1GB = Sceptre X20WG-Naga 20" = Logitech X-530 5.1
Seagate 320GB (SATA II) x2 = Samsung SH-S203B (SATA)

If the motherboard has a different chipset, chances are you'll BSOD at startup. You could try booting into safe mode and then uninstall the old drivers and reinstall the new ones.....
Generally your better of doing a clean install though!

A slipstream should work for any machine, it's just a fully up to date copy of windows.
even better is a disk image of a fresh clean install on a bootable CD/DVD, but that is specific to your machine with all hardware EXACTLY the same, and you have to make a new one after every update of hardware or software to be able to quickly restore to that point.

First a link to nLite:

I have used this program several times recently and in the past to slipstream. This program makes your life so much easier, it's just almost unbelievable!

You have the ability to upgrade an old version of a Windows OS to the newest service pack, integrate hot fixes, pre-load those pesky drivers (especially sata and raid drivers for those of us that dislike floppy drives), and make an iso for easy burning. the program does much more too. There are some very good guides on the Web page.

Two very important points:
1. You must be using the version of the OS you plan to Slipstream.
2. You will be able to save your sessions so you can make changes and additions easily.
