Building New System
Hey everyone, im new to building comps and my knowledge is limited. I hope you guys can help guide me in the right directions and thank you anyone that helps out. Here is a list of what i have in mind and so far i only bought the cpu.
Case: Cooler Master CMS Stacker 832
Cpu: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700
Motherboard: EVGA 122-CK-NF68-AR LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i
Memory: G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Power Supply: BFG Tech BFGR1000WPSU ATX
Video Card: EVGA 768-P2-N837-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3
Cpu HSF: OCZ Vindicator CPU Cooler
Hard Drive: Western Digital Raptor X WD1500AHFD 150GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150
Operating System: Xp Pro 64 or Vista Ultimate
What im try to get out of this system is being able to game and run photoshop/3d works. I have read you you guys have overclocked the cpu to 3.73 and is wondering if its stable on air cooling? Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

if you plan to oc, you may wish to get a better/more oc-able ram. I would also recommend OCZ's psu as it seems to be a better choice for must overclokers. The 8800gtx is not a bad card (and don't forget evga has their step up program so you can upgrade to the new card if the new 8900 is out within 90 days).
I am not sure about the hd, I may recommend forget about the whole raptor and maybe just go for raid with 2 seaget hds. (also get Vista retail version as it will let you install the 32bit or 64bit and forget about xp (you won't regret in a few month:))

The nVidia 8900 series will be introduced during the same week as the ATI R600 series.stunt wrote:When does the 8900 come out and do you know any links where i can view it?
Basically the 8900 series will be approximately ten percent faster than the current 8800 series. If you are building now, go with EVGA to take advantage of their step-up program.

There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allows to live.
