... is a freaking joke.. I built this thing two years ago and he always finds a way to mess it up. I'm constantly reformatting it because Windows bogs down to nothing and he gets viruses up the wazoo. He's lucky I don't charge the regular rate... I only charge him $20.

Well, I guess he had it plugged into a cheap power strip and to my guess, there was a power surge. The PSU was fried, motherboard was fried, and when I went to turn it on after replacing everything, the hard drive said its good byes. I'm so happy that WD had a 1 year warranty on the drive too..



So, if anyone knows where to find a drive approximately 80GB in size for cheap, let me know! OEM is fine.

Regarding viruses, you should check out NOD32. I use it on both my systems with no problems for three years. If you decide to install this for him, swing by the official forums and read the stickies regarding the most efficient configuration.

You want to avoid the virii problems in the future. Install windows and make him a guest only, with the ability to install programs only. Do not allow him to change any system settings. Install AV and Antispyware, set to auto update, do not give him the control to shut it off. Remove all links to IE, force him to use Firefox. Works wonders for my repeat offenders

Hmm... I'm going to have to try this next time. I was in a hurry to finish it this time, but I did install AV and MS Defender. Next time, I'll test out what you said. I do know his kids use the computer, and I don't recall if he lets them use the main account or not.


As far as the PSU, it was one that came w/ the case I believe. It was a RAID MAX KY-520ATX 420W PSU.
