I have purched these following computer parts for my first computer build and now I need some help. Please let me know what you think.

Now for my question. I am using my old Hard Drive with all my old info and operating system (WinXP) on it. If I just plug this into the new box with all the new parts, and just turn it on, is that going to be a problem? I guess what I'm asking is....is this the way to do it or do I need to format the drive first before I turn it on?

Also, if anyone knows of a writeup that would help me in the regard, I would certainly appreciate it. Also, a writeup on how to build a computer from the point AFTER you have installed all the parts would be helpful as well. Again, Im a NOOB here and don't know much about the build.

Yes there will be a problem the hardware is different, windows won't recognize it and crash. You also will need to reactivate windows

okay, so your saying that I should back up all my info and then format my drive and then start up the computer with a fresh hard drive?

yup that would be your best bet. I mean yeah you could try without, but in my experience, it usually doesn't work, only works if your replacing a board, ie same chipset, onboard devices ect

I'd probably just pick up a new hard drive. New drives are fairly inexpensive, and most new drives will have better specs than "an older drive" depending on how old that drive is.

just put the new drive in, install your operating system and use the old drive as a slave until you can get all your data off of it.
