I've pretty much decided on the following:

DFI Lanparty UT NF4-SLI-DR

I'm not going sli anytime soon, but I want something that can overclock really well, and this is known for good performance.

AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Venice

I need a 939 processor, but I want to go dual Opteron when I have the dough, and I don't want to get anything expensive before then. Besides, even if I leave this at stock, it'll be a little better than my current proc anyway. :P

Now, hsf is where I'm curious about.

I like both the Zalman CNPS9700 NT and the Zalman CNPS9700 LED.

They both seem about the same, but the question is whether either one outperforms the other. I like the NT because of the green light, but the LED matches my copper heatsink theme, and I could always change out the blue led later anyway.

Any thoughts? :)

edit: I think I might add some Ballistix to that list.

I've still got a little to play with...

Are you also getting a new PSU?

Yeah, I was just thinking about that. I think I might go with the Corsair 620.

Well, I'll probably order today, but I had a thought on the cpu cooler.

Would on these new dual fan Cooler Master ones work better than the Zalman?

your kind of getting yourself in an upgrade hole since 939 is the only platform still running DDR if your going to go AMD why not go AM2 that way youll be able to upgrade easier and less expensively and when Agena (brisbane based native quad core) comes out all youll have to buy is the proc since itll be compatible with AM2

yeah if your going to be spending money now to upgrade at least make it easier/cheaper for an upgrade down the road.

I'd just say get a 3800+ x2 for 99 dollars but if you are looking for dual core operton later then I guess that cancels that out. they are 99 at tiger direct oem and if you have the cooler they can oc pretty well. (though much better on water).

Ok, got the final build info here, and it's just been ordered an hour ago. :P

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 65W
XFX MB-N590ASH9
G.SKILL 2x1GB DDR2 800
Corsair CMPSU-620HX

And the 8800 GTS got here a few days ago, but I just haven't had time to post pictures. I get em up soon, I promise! It's an awesome sight for someone who's always been several generations behind though, I almost can't contain myself from forcing it into the AGP socket! :-s
