The Kingston SSDNow V+ Solid State Drive (SSD) series features sequential read speeds of up to 220MB/sec. and write speeds of up to 180MB/sec. This makes it nearly twice as fast as the original SSDNow V series of drives, so be sure to read on to check out Kingston's latest mainstream SSD offering!
A test I'd like to see run on a SSD: Use WinRAR to decompress a big, multiple file .rar file.
Reasoning: I use two computers all the time. One has a singe 160GB WD Caviar drive, the other has 2X1TB Samsung Spinpoints in RAID 0. To decompress a file with the WD it may take 2 minutes. With the RAID 0 setup the same file may only take 20 seconds.
Ignoring the differences in CPU speed, decompressing a file seems to be all hard drive based.
How big of a file are you asking about, win rar uses windows temp file, on an ssd drive I usual move windows temp file to a ram drive, temp writes on a mlc ssd are not good. Also very dependent on the read speed of the source. And yeah it"s hard drive intensive, 2 reads and 2 writes.
