XFX GeForce 7800 GT Video Card Review

Post by Apoptosis »

The GeForce 7800 GTX video card at $450 is priced out of the budget for a single video card, let alone two of these premium cards. The 7800GT on the other hand is priced just right at around $360. With widespread availability and unparalleled performance, the 7800GT is sure to be the most popular card on the market.

Yeah, this card is definately the "sweet spot". This is probably my most favorite card available right now. Yeah it's still pretty expensive, but if you are in the market for a high end card, it is definately awesome bang for your buck!!
Very clean review but I would have liked to have seen the benchmark results compared to eachother (single card vs. SLI and vs. other cards).

Now I just gotta find $350!

Maybe I should stop reading these reviews, it just makes me want to spend all my grocery money! LOL, I can live off rice and frozen vegetables for another few months right?

I looked at this one and went with the EVGA 7800 GT card instead. It comes oc'd to 470mhz (well, the OC version - they make s few different 7800GT cards). My HSF and exhaust fan should be here today so I will be installing everything tonight. I'm nto re-installing windows (if I can help it - I have too many apps with patches and upgrades that are a MAJOR PAIN to re-do) so depending how that goes I should be able to finish tonight. :drinkers:

This card specs and price are phenomenal - I've been looking for a new upgrade path and this one takes the cake as my preference is with nVid.

Good info, but there is no section on overclocking and the benchmarking tests & graphs need help.

QFT. Single card vs. SLI and vs. other cards, modern games, etc. would be nice as these charts don't give me a real comparison. Still - the price and capacity still have me looking for this chipset over anything else. *drool* 8)

I did the benchmarks this way because to me at least the review was about a single card, and I wanted to show how the card did under various circumstances (High performance, then high quality), the SLI portion was just a bonus, and to be honest, the graphs would have been a mess had I included everything under one,
As far as noise, they are very quiet.... much quieter than the oldf X850XT and its two slot cooling solution.....idle temps are at about 42-44C depending on the temp in my house.

What games would you like to see used? To me, Doom 3 and Far Cry are extremely popular and widely owned. The HL@ and BF@ benchmarks in my opion just take way too much time and effort to set up and run....and I feel you are going to get a good representation of the cards capability using these games and the 3DMark suites.
As far as comparison, I really don't have any other cards of this generation right now, so these are the first. Also keep in mind that you can run the same benchmarks with your system and compare results at different settings to see the performance difference......sometimes the reviewe has to focus mainly on the product and not on comparing it to something else.

From the conclusion...
"As far as cooling, these cards never broke 65C at any time during my testing, a testament to the quality of the 7800GT's single slot cooling solution. As far as fan noise, the 7800GT's cooling fan was inaudible during all of my testing within the Sonata II I have come to use and love."

DAMN, those are good temps for a stock cooler!

great card. :finga: :finga: :finga: it's amazing how the new 7800 is able to outperform the old 6800 ultra while keeping it single slot and cool and quiet.

Nice review! I've been eying that card for awhile. Recently bought a XFX 6600GT and I've been very happy with it.

Looks like my options are open now, heheh. But I also saw something about BFG coming out with (or it's already out) a W/C 7800 GT, and when overclocked, due to it being W/C, it achieve higher clocks. Damn I wish I can remember where I saw it, caught a glimpse yesterday while doing news. But, for the price and performance, not to mention the Double Lifetime Warranty, you can't beat the XFX card :)
