Intel Ivy Bridge Processor Overclocking Proves Challenging For Some Motherboard Makers

If you plan on buying an Intel Ivy Bridge processor we have an article that you have to read today! We have discovered an issue on Gigabyte motherboards that use the Intel 6-series of chipsets that is going to cause overclockers to cringe. Basically, the Gigabyte Z68 and P67 motherboards can't overclock Ivy Bridge processors as the CPU multiplier is locked due to BIOS limitations. This means that Intel 'k' sku processors like the Intel Core i7-3770K processor are stuck at a multiplier of 39 on these boards!

Good to know, thanks for the heads up! I can see a lot of P.O.'d enthusiasts getting up in in Gigabyte's grill in the near future, at least until they fix this.
I have come to the conclusion that "FaceBook" should be renamed "FacePalm"

This might explain why the Ivy Bridge BIOS update basically killed my motherboard.

more than likely that is the issue. IVB and SB use two different hook tables and it sounds like it is tough to get everything to work right.

Oh well, lesson learned. I have the RMA approved and I'm waiting on a PnP socket saver to send it back.
