I had the same issue with the demo app reducing my resolution to some ridiculously small size, away from the native FullHD. I am running Windows 7, not Windows 8 or 8.1 so the issue is not with Windows 8.1 alone

Thanks for letting me know you too are having the same issue and that it isn't just Windows 8.1!

Are you running Intel integrated graphics by chance? I am running Intel HD 4000 graphics and am thinking it is driver related.
