Can you maybe tell me of the powerconsumption of the Nuc D 34010WYK lower is than the Nuc D54250WYK, both with 4 gb memory.

France.
Both use 15W TDP processors, but it is safe to assume that the Intel Core i3-4010U will use less power than the Intel Core i5-4250U Processor as it doesn't have Turbo and should run at a lower clock speed most of the time in load scenarios. I don't have both units here, so I can't give you an exact difference. At idle, there should be hardly any difference though as both share similar technologies and should idle down to the same clocks and possibly the same voltages.

- how many 1080P@60 streams it can transcode simultaniously?
- how good (drivers) and easy is a Dual monitor setup?
-I see in the specs: 2 USB 2.0 ports via internal header. Will they boot from it?
I had to divert these to Intel:

1) how many 1080P@60 streams it can transcode simultaneously?

That iss an interesting question and the answer is, it depends. Depends on bit rate and whether you want real-time transcode or not.
- If you don’t need real-time transcode then in theory you could kick off 32,000 transcodes, but it would be pretty slow.
- If you want real-time transcode we should be able to do 4 or more in parallel.
robotica wrote:Thnx again for your insights; this machine is nearly 100% feature complete.

About the real-time transcoding:
I was referring to 1080P@60 fps, H.264 [email protected] encoded source material (lets say 9000kbps) coupled with AC3 5.1 sound (let's say 448kbps). But as i understand this should be doable.
Thnx. again for all your answers!
Could you share a result of the CPU (maybe even GPU) utilization, playing a youtube 1080P hollywood movietrailer?
Since video playback/GPU isn't Intel strongest part, it would be really interesting to know this. Maybe then, this device can be my new video server.

I just played the 1080P HD video trailer for After Earth on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRln879o ... 4-overview

The CPU is running at near idle bouncing around 700-900MHz and the CPU utilization is below 10% the entire time of the trailer.

Very nice :)

Any chance of installing XBMC and taking a look what the power draw is on the menu/library screens and while watching a video?

I am currently using a foxconn AT-5570 (1 GHZ dual AMD) and it uses 15-21 watts during XBMC viewing and ideally want to get that down to 10 or below to justify purchasing a haswell nuc..

I installed XBMC 13.0 alpha 8 (Gotham) that just came out this past week and I'm seeing 9.9-10.2 Watts at idle on the menus. This is without the wireless card in the system as I am running wired LAN.

I ran the Pioneer Enter 1080p video clip (Dolby Digital 5.1, 1080/29.97p) to try out the video playback usage - http://www.demo-world.eu/trailers/high- ... ailers.php

I saw between 8.2W to 14W during the short video clip. I ran it three times and it was constantly in that range. The majority of the time it is between 8-9W, but spikes up a bit during the first half of the video clip.

I'm no XBMC expert, so I am not sure why it uses more power on the home menu than during a video.

Thanks really appreciated.
Defiantely seems like the system for me.

With regards to the menus, not that surprising actually. IIRC the menus run at 60 FPS so are often more CPU intensive than the actual videos

It appears now at Amazon from seller PCsupply:
http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Corp-Single ... ywords=nuc

$469 shipping in 1-3 weeks. It's a bit expensiver than expected, no? Is this seller serious or it is just speculating on this product?

That seller appears to be high priced on many of their items. I did a comparison search on a random item on their site (Wahl 79524-2501 for $60 + $10.90 shipping) and found the identical item shipped from and sold by Amazon for $24.50 plus free shipping (over $25). The price on this NUC appears to be speculative pricing to me for their version of a pre-order, once it hits stock in the major e-tailers the price will even out to closer to actual value.
I have come to the conclusion that "FaceBook" should be renamed "FacePalm"

From what I have been told it will go out next week if it passes all the final checks before a product goes out the door, so cross your fingers! I'll have to ask if they fixed the 2x8GB (16GB) memory issue at certain memory speeds.

Hi! I will buy this system as soon as I can get hold of it. I am however a newbie when it comes to Windows installation. Can anyone explain why the OS installation should be done in the manner described in the review?:
From a separate system, download the latest Intel NUC drivers from Download Center.
Copy the downloaded drivers to the USB flash drive.
Plug the USB flash drive into the front USB port.
Copy the drivers from the flash drive to the internal drive on the system.
Why is it better to download the drivers from a separate system? I believe that I can go to Intels support web and my computer will be scanned and I will then be presented with appropriate drivers. Am I wrong?

I'm only guessing, but I assume it's because the NUC NIC drivers aren't included with the Windows installation. Which is pretty common when there is a change in the NIC chips until Windows installation gets updated.

If you are installing Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 you can do it direct... You really just need the LAN or WIFI drivers installed in order to get the rest.

Any more information on this? I presume that maybe something went wrong as for the most part no retailer seems to have a firm date for release yet :(

16GB works at the rated speeds by Intel, but they haven't gotten it working at overclocked speeds. For example my 16GB (2x8GB) kit at 2133MHz doesn't work even with the latest BIOS.
