It is around this time at the start of a new year that people believe they can get off to a fresh beginning. While most people are running out getting gym memberships or buying magical patches to stop smoking, those in the tech industry find themselves trekking out the first week of the year to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Article Title: LR's Monthly Editorial: January 2006
By the way this is something new that I will be doing in 2006. I am going to right one general "state of the industry" editorial the first week of each month. Hope you enjoy it!

"electronics envy"???After running Legit Reviews since 2002 I have come across way too many readers that get stuck with what I like to refer to as "electronics envy". These are the consumers that have to have the latest and greatest products and will go to extremes to get them. We are after all living in the age of electronic gadgets, but how many do you really need and is it worth it? These consumers are what keep the products coming, but at the same time they have to be able to afford it.
Guilty....

Guilty here as well...
Though... I don't do credit, so that eliminates the possibility of me buying anything big (though a new/used car might be on the horizon). Not helping that this old old clunker with its 130k+ miles might need fixing soon, something screwy with the starter me thinks.
*sigh*
And I had my eyes set on that Japanese Xbox360 too...
Only $440 shipped for the premium version!

Yeah, I totally agree with that statement too. It is sooooo easy to generate extra buzz about a new product on the internet that it can really get to you. It's very important to keep your head on straight and make sure you really know what you want before dropping the cash on that new video card or processor or whatever...Nathan Kirsch wrote:Don’t let the rush of new products and the marketing campaigns of these multi-million dollar companies make you buy something you will later regret.
Nice editorial Nate

Sorry I'm digging up old stuff here, but I'm looking for headset articles and reading the other interesting ones.
I couldnt help but notice the irony of what you said in the first post about how quickly new years resolutions are broken and how many editorials you actually ended up doing.
Dan
(I know you work your socks off for us as it is so im not moaning!)

I honestly bit off more than I could chew...
For some strange reason I thought I could write multiple articles a month, travel 10 weeks out of the year, maintain the site, upgrade the backend, handle advertising, edit all the reviews, handle the flow of products coming in, update the system guides, post news on the main page, post press releases in the forums, answer 200+ e-mails a day, and post daily in the forums... did I mention i have a house, a girlfriend, a cat and a personal life to handle too? Running LR has been an 70+ hour a week job since 2002...
I love it, but at time it will be the death of me.
The problem of LR is the amount of money it brings in versus being able to hire someone... It needs to bring in more money to hire a full time staff, but that has proved to be interesting.
