Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor QX9770 Review

The Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor QX9770 was just unveiled minutes ago and even though it will not be out till next year, Legit Reviews has the performance numbers today. The QX9770 is the first Intel processor to ship with a 1600MHz Front Side Bus and it also has a 200MHz increase in clock frequency over the QX9650. This is one processor you don't want to miss out on as 1600MHz FSB processors will be all the rage next year!

The TDP rating (Thermal Design Power) for the chip has changed though as it does use more power. The Intel QX9650 processor has a TDP of 130W and the Intel QX9770 is 136W, which means cooling requirements have changed just a bit. Other than the TDP change, the price is also going to be higher than traditional Extreme processors. Intel hasn't said how much higher it will be, but we will find out next year when they are launched.

Good review, Nate. I'm not gonna wait for this one...I'll prolly go with the QX9650 next month or wait until this is released in the hopes the 9650 will get a price drop (doubtful it will be much).
