I think shipping should not be a problem. I bought several items from EBAY and the items always arrive safely and in good condition.

You worked in US embassy before ? Thats cool !!! 8)
infinitevalence wrote:I would offer but shipping outside the US is a major pain in the ass :( and you never know if it will get where you want it. Things were so much better when i was working for the US embassy can you say diplomatic pouch :)

Great review & info!

A few questions if anyone knows:

Is the multiplier adjustable in BIOS on any boards yet? (Looking at the P4C800E specifically) If not is this planned for future BIOS releases?

Is it possible to enable SpeedStep? (Kind of related to first question in a way as the multiplier is dynamically adjusted) I realize this might not be pratical when overclocking (ie: voltage may drop below stable level even when multiplier drops because of high FSB) but it would be nice for non-overclocked setups.

Even better would be an option to enter custom SpeedStep profiles (Multipler, FSB, and Vcore) for different CPU loads, but I know that's asking a lot.

and the detail information of the Whitefield cpu:

Btw. in two weeks i hope i have the adapter, too.
i will post my results into that thread.

@JCLW
it´s possible to use speedstep with a program called rmclock.

Here it is:

any update on the benchmark for dothan + P4C800-E DELUXE ?

Still can't find the CT-479 here in Singapore. Shipping from US double the price to more than $ 100. :(

did asus say anything about putting the 1009 beta on there site. i have been looking for it on there .tw site where they put up beta's more then on the US site. How did you mod the clap to work actually? looks like if i do the same thing i might be able to get the swiffy 6002 block to work.

For those of you with contacts at ASUS, how about prodding them to get some more BIOS's out there. It's hard to believe it would take that much effort from them, especially given that they already have three.

I have now the adapter ,too. (from a productmanager who works for Asus in lives in my neighbourhood)

But i have a question to Nathan:

Have Asus anything said about the 1009 Bios for the Asus P4p800-se like "please dont use it ,because they can damage your Motherboard with the Adapter" ?

I look at the 1009 Bios on the Asus Page, but i cant find it anymore :(

Well, Sadly I don't have a replacement CT-479 adapter card yet... ASUS told me on Thursday 5-5-2005 that they are sold out and are unable to replace my card.

I have not heard anything positive or negative on the 1009 BIOS...

My card failure resulted in killing the P4P800-SE and the P4C800E motherboards that I was using. I'm not sure if it was because of the high voltages I ran or a hardware/software issue on ASUS's part...

Eek, I hope it wasn't the voltage. My CT-479 seems to ignore the VID of the CPU and always defaults to 1.568V. I'ved used both a Dothan core (C-M 350) and a Banias C-M 340. I had to use the 1009 beta BIOS to lower the VCORE but for some stupid reason I can only lower it to 1.500V (I can select between 1.5-1.6V only) which is way above spec. Very frustrating.

Very nice article well done! It just goes to show you that Intel really hasn,t been about creating cpu,s for games! I am a Intel fan boy always well be. I have a very fast system myself it is an excellant gamer also but I didn,t spend the $$$$ for a gaming PC I wanted a fast alround PC and thats what I got .If i wanted just to game I would buy the much cheaper X-box. I do want to upgrade but I well wait untill the release of the Merom class cpu;s and that well all come down to if ATI amr works with it . I am sure it well .By the way a lot of bashing going on About ATI X800XT PE.not being availuable and overpriced. I can't see it I got mine last june from Extasy for $499.
I also read AnandTechs Article on the P M with the Asus connector.
I was really quit upset with the way he did his benchies.
1). He did not use the fastest timings on the Intel setup he did with the AMD cpu.
2)never did a clock for clock comparison which is fine but! He should have got the memory bus as fast as possiable to compare processors.
a) he was comparing cpu not memory and to be fair he had to raise the memory bus speed. (to be objective)
But we all know Anand is very bois towards AMD as such his intel motherboards never have the fastest availuable memory setting or the best memory (It well be his downfall people in the know can plainly see that he scews the intel boards inorder to make AMD look even stronger than it really is.
I also have a complaint about how Ananda latest memory reviews.
when the fastest OCZ came out the stuff in your article. he couldn't get it test fast enough it is good memory but Corsair came out with even faster and lower timed memory he he still hasn't posted a review on it .
When Anand did a review of my motherboard and the same 3.2 C intel
at stock speeds all of my benchies were 10% higher than his.
If you go look at his reviews and compare to others on the same hardware you well see Anands are the lowest results for intel cpu,s!!!!!
Than when he does an AMD review his numbers are always higher than other reviews .
Anand shouldn,t do intel reviews because he doesn;t seem to know how to get good results and its to bad. A lot of people listen to his advice .
But a lot of people are beginning to see that Anand could be taking money for a good review.
As far as CPU's go Intel has by far the best Tech except for 1 huge differance. That is the ondie memory controller and thats all there is to it,
As your article has shown P M is faster at the same clock speed . If P M had the ondie momory controller it would be 20%faster clock for clock. This is a conservative est I believe !!! Morem is going to be unreal.
Keep up the excellant work and stay unbois as you have been. :axe:

I'm using a CT-479 with a P4P800-VM, and it sets Vcore at the correct default voltage for the CPU. I've tested both a 1.6 and a 1.7 P-M and both run readily at a 133MHz FSB while UNDERvolting them. The bottom setting for the board seems to be 1.15. So with the 1.7, I'm getting 2.26 MHz at 1.15v and a very cool and quiet setup.

what ram are you using? thought about using that board. changing the muiti to use a higher FSB at same speed or highest possible at defualt volts.

I'm currently using 4 x 256 MB Corsair XMS-PC3200LL Rev1.1 with BH-5 chips, but I've also used other RAM. If you set the jumper on the CT-479 to 533 MHz and use AUTO setting in the BIOS for memory, you get a 4:5 divider and 166MHz for the memory. If you use Clockgen to get to 533 and jumper the CT-479 at 400 MHz, you'll get a 3:4 divider and 177 MHz memory speed. I've thought about using a lower CPU multiplier to get higher memory speeds, but just haven't had the chance to play around with it. I assume it's just fine tuning to get the right mix, but don't know for sure.

Zinn2b - Thanks for the nice comments! I stive for the best testing results.

hmsrolst - On my P4P800SE it was better to have higher clock speed and not worry about the memory as much. Dual Channel didn't help that much and a few MHz here on there on the memory will go un-noticed in the real world at P4-M's or any P4 for that matter is not memory starved when it comes to bandwidth

CPU Ratio & gauges

Post by conspectumortis »

My neighbour (thx to him) have a digicam and made the pictures from my modified Asus P4P800-SE 1009 Bios (created with AMIBCP & i tested with the integrated emulation program).

I have no idea if this option is available when the Asus CT 479 is working , but i will test it in a few days.
The good thing , now i have the option to chance the multiplier ,before that was impossible.

How did you modify the bios for P4P800SE ? Is it possible to modify the bios for P4C800-E deluxe so that the multiplier option would appear as well as the option to modify vcore ?

Thank's !

The modification doesn´t work :/

I have tested today, but the cpu ratio is always unavailable :/

Btw. we have started in our german forums an overclocking Thread, too. :D
