They haven't announced if it will or won't yet.

I wonder if graphics cards will follow the path of processors and if we'll be seeing quad-gpu cards anytime soon, or even tri-gpu cards. Or if they'll just add to the processors like AMD is looking to do with their Fusion processsors.

What like Triple SLI/XFireX? :P

I think that because a graphics card is dedicated to doing a specific job, it is easier for graphics companies to make them faster and more effcient at doing what they do without having to resort to multiple cores on a chip/die thing we are seeing with CPU's.

There are some cards (out and coming out) that put two cores on one card, but they are essentially just sli/xfire on a card rather than a multi core thing.

I was using the catalyst 7.7 drivers for a while :( , when i got 7.10, i saw a slight performance improvement (5-10fps in Lightsmark2007). And now I'm just realizing 7.12 is out. If only i could find that catalyst overdrive in 7.10#-o . So with a few more updates they should slowly improve, maybe not at par with their nVidia counterparts, but close.

Any news on this yet?

says in the review that these dont need the 4-pci slots as they are obviously dual gpu cards

but does that mean two of them can run on a crossfire X38 board with 2x PCI-E 2.0 16x/16x in crossfire?

I'd like to run 2 of these cards on a Asus Maximus Formula Special Edition with a intell qaud core 6600 CPU.

shouldn't be a problem... Any board with x16 PCI Express (v1 or 2) should be fine.

I was thinking, yes it happens sometimes and it hurts ;-) , It must be possible:

Or else you would need crosfire to run even a single card with 2 gpu's on any MB and I don't think ATI would limits sales due to this.

here is a picture of the card naked... Looks like the first one is the most recent version... It's obvious that ATI made several versions during development.

3870 x2 in Crossfire seems like the height of unnecessaryness (a real word?) for computing. Yes, it gets you more fps, but it also can be a replacement for a jet engine :p

But if I got one for free, I wouldn't complain.

Now that is quite sweet, it'll be great to see some results once there are drivers that support CrossfireX.

It looks like they're sponsoring a few contests with these cards. I wouldn't mind winning one :)

I'd really like to see the performance of the 3870X2 in a crossfire x setup, eight cores of glory!
I'd expect that the more cards you add, the lower % of a performance boost a card will give. But hey, if you have money to burn and a 100" television, stuff would be, uh, playable. But I would also expect to see some mean benchmarks.
But I have an odd feeling I won't be seeing any reviews of 3870X2's in crossfire x for awhile.
I reject your reality, and substitute my own!

You can't have four of these in crossfire, only two, unfortunately, because the card itself is basically crossfire on a board, and the drivers for Crossfire X aren't out either :(

I've heard that CrossfireX with the 3870X2 consists of only 2 cards (4 GPU's). It sure seems like that since there is only one CF connector thing at the top of the card... Looks like we won't be getting any 8-GPU goodness. :(
